Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.

Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and large eggs until pale and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.

Add Flavorings and Dry Ingredients
Stir in the vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and salt until just combined. Do not overmix.
Baking

Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool the Cake
Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, carefully transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar if desired. Serve with fresh berries and whipped cream on the side.
