Calamari Preparation

Prepare Calamari
In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.

Coat Calamari
Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.

Bread Calamari
Dip the coated calamari rings into the beaten eggs, then coat them with bread crumbs, pressing gently to ensure adhesion.

Heat Oil
In a large frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

Fry Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Stir in the fresh basil just before serving. Adjust seasoning to taste.
