Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beans

Soak the navy beans overnight in a large bowl of water. Drain and rinse before cooking.

  2. 2

    Cook the Bacon

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon, chop it, and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.

  3. 3

    Sauté the Onion

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion to the bacon drippings and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pot, combine the soaked beans, cooked bacon, sautéed onion, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper.

  5. 5

    Bake the Beans

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Transfer the bean mixture to a baking dish and cover with foil. Bake for about 2 to 2.5 hours, checking occasionally and adding water if needed.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once the beans are tender and the sauce is thickened, remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
