S'more Sandwiches

Method

S'more Sandwiches

1

Prepare crackers and chocolate

Lay out 8 graham cracker squares (4 bottom halves and 4 tops) on a clean surface. On each bottom cracker place one quarter of a standard milk chocolate bar (or one full 0.88 oz piece) so the chocolate slightly covers the cracker but does not overhang.

2

Toast marshmallows

Spear one marshmallow onto a roasting stick. Hold it over hot embers or the flame of a campfire about 3–6 inches above the heat, rotating slowly. Toast until the exterior is deeply golden and slightly crisp and the interior is gooey, about 1.5–3 minutes depending on heat. For a charred exterior, allow occasional brief contact with flame until browned or blackened to your preference.

3

Assemble s'more

When marshmallow is toasted, immediately slide it off the stick onto a chocolate-topped bottom cracker. Press gently with a top cracker to form a sandwich, allowing the warm marshmallow to melt the chocolate. Hold for 10–20 seconds, then separate slightly and adjust if needed. Repeat for remaining marshmallows.

Optional additions

4

Butter or spread (optional)

If using butter, lightly spread 1/4 tsp of softened butter on each top cracker before sandwiching—this adds richness. If using peanut butter, spread about 1/2 tsp on the bottom cracker under the chocolate before adding the marshmallow.

5

Banana and salt (optional)

If adding banana slices, place one or two thin slices on top of the chocolate before adding the toasted marshmallow. For a sweet-salty contrast, sprinkle a small pinch of sea salt flakes on the melted chocolate once the sandwich is assembled.

6

Foil warm-up method (no fire)

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Assemble s'mores open-faced on a foil-lined baking sheet (chocolate on cracker, marshmallow on top). Bake 3–5 minutes until marshmallow puffs and chocolate softens. Top with second cracker and press gently. Alternatively, wrap assembled s'mores in foil and place near coals or on grill for 1–2 minutes to warm through.

Cleanup and safety

7

Turn roasting sticks away from others and let hot metal cool before storing. Extinguish campfire fully when finished. Dispose of foil and wrappers responsibly and clean sticky hands and surfaces with warm soapy water or wet wipes.
