Marinara Sauce

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into small balls, approximately 1 inch in diameter. Place the formed meatballs on a plate or baking sheet.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet over medium heat, add a little olive oil and cook the meatballs until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Aromatics

In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Combine Sauce Ingredients

Pour in the crushed canned tomatoes, and stir in dried oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Finish the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If desired, stir in fresh basil just before serving.

  4. 7

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Add the browned meatballs back into the skillet with the marinara sauce. Simmer together for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
