Hash Browns Ingredients

Method

Hash Browns Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and grate them using a box grater or a food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a bowl of cold water to prevent browning. Let them soak for about 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and Dry

After soaking, drain the potatoes and squeeze out excess moisture using a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth. The drier the potatoes, the crispier the hash browns will be.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Onion

Finely chop the onion and mix it with the grated potatoes. Season the mixture with salt and black pepper.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  5. 5

    Cook the Hash Browns

Add the potato mixture to the skillet in an even layer. Press down gently with a spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown. Flip the hash browns and add butter to the skillet. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the other side is browned and crispy.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from heat, cut into wedges, and serve immediately. Enjoy your crispy hash browns!
