Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Baking Pan

Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan or tube pan to prevent the cake from sticking.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, ground nutmeg, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

  4. 4

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

  5. 5

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.

  6. 6

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

  7. 7

    Add Rum

Pour in the dark rum and mix until well incorporated.

  8. 8

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. 9

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Rum Syrup Preparation

  1. 10

    Prepare the Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 11

    Add Rum

Once the sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and stir in the dark rum. Allow the syrup to cool slightly.

  3. 12

    Soak the Cake

Poke holes all over the cooled cake with a toothpick. Drizzle the rum syrup over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
