Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel the Plantains

Carefully slice off both ends of each green plantain. Make a shallow cut along the length of the plantain skin, being careful not to cut into the flesh. Gently peel the skin off to reveal the plantain.

  2. 2

    Slice the Plantains

Cut the peeled plantains into 1-inch thick slices. You can also slice them diagonally for a different presentation.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Ensure there is enough oil to submerge the plantain slices halfway.

  2. 4

    Fry the Plantains

Carefully add the sliced plantains to the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 5

    Drain Excess Oil

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil. Sprinkle with salt while they are still hot.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate the Dish

Arrange the fried plantains on a serving plate. Optionally, garnish with fresh cilantro, serve with sour cream, and lime wedges on the side.
