Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the jasmine rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse it under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from becoming gummy.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed jasmine rice, coconut milk, water, salt, and sugar. Stir gently to mix all the ingredients together.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Bring to a Boil

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Keep an eye on it to prevent it from boiling over.

  2. 4

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed all the liquid.

  3. 5

    Fluff and Serve

After the cooking time, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork. Serve warm as a side dish or as a base for your favorite curry.
