Bread & Spread

LTO (Lettuce, Tomato, Onion)

Optional finishing & seasoning

Method

Bread & Spread

  1. 1

    Prepare roll

Slice the ciabatta roll horizontally into top and bottom halves. If desired, spread mayonnaise evenly on the inside of the top half (about 1 tsp).

  2. 2

    Mustard

Spread 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard evenly on the inside of the bottom half of the roll.

  3. 3

Optional - toast: Spread 1 teaspoon butter lightly on the cut faces of both halves. Heat a skillet over medium heat and toast bread cut-side down until golden and lightly crisp, about 1–2 minutes per side. Remove from heat.

Protein & Cheese

  1. 4

    Assemble ham and cheddar

Place the 3 oz of thinly sliced deli ham evenly across the bottom half of the roll, distributing so each bite has ham. Lay two slices of sharp cheddar over the ham, slightly overlapping.

  2. 5

Optional - melt cheese: If you prefer the cheese melted, place the assembled bottom half (with ham and cheese) under a broiler for 30–60 seconds or in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes until the cheese just begins to soften and melt. Watch closely to avoid burning.

LTO (Lettuce, Tomato, Onion)

  1. 6

    Prepare produce

Wash and dry the lettuce leaves. Slice a medium tomato into 3 even slices. Cut 3 thin rings of red onion and separate them.

  2. 7

Season tomato: Lightly sprinkle the tomato slices with 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper to enhance flavor.

  3. 8

Layer on sandwich: Place the seasoned tomato slices on top of the melted (or unmelted) cheddar, then add the lettuce leaves and red onion rings.

Finish & Serve

  1. 9

Top and press: Place the top half of the roll (with mayonnaise, if used) onto the stacked sandwich. Press gently to compact the sandwich slightly so it holds together.

  2. 10

Cut and serve: Using a sharp knife, cut the sandwich in half on the diagonal if desired. Serve immediately while bread is warm and cheese slightly melty.
