Calamari

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Breading Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix thoroughly.

  3. 3

    Make the Batter

In another bowl, whisk the egg and cold water together until well combined. Slowly add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, stirring until smooth.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Dip calamari rings into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place them into the hot oil. Fry in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Red Pepper Aioli Preparation

  1. 6

    Make the Aioli

In a blender or food processor, combine mayonnaise, roasted red bell pepper, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Wasabi Drizzle Preparation

  1. 7

    Combine Wasabi and Mayonnaise

In a small bowl, mix the wasabi paste and mayonnaise together until well combined.
