Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 6
Prepare Tomato Sauce
In a bowl, crush the canned whole tomatoes and add salt and black pepper to taste. Mix well.
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 8
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release air. Transfer to a floured surface and roll it out into a round shape, about 12 inches in diameter.
- 9
Add Sauce and Cheese
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread the crushed tomato sauce evenly over the surface, leaving a small border. Tear the fresh mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute it evenly over the sauce.
- 10
Bake the Pizza
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Add Fresh Basil
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top it with fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
- 12
Slice and Serve
Allow the pizza to cool for a minute, then slice and serve hot.
