Burger Patty

Toppings

Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Cook Quinoa

In a small saucepan, combine quinoa with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes or until water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    Mash Black Beans

In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the cooked quinoa, grated carrot, chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, cumin powder, salt, and pepper to the mashed beans. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Form Patties

Slowly add bread crumbs to the mixture until it holds together well. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties.

  5. 5

    Cook Patties

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare Buns

Toast the burger buns lightly on a skillet or in a toaster.

  2. 7

    Add Toppings

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a cooked veggie patty, sliced tomatoes, and pickles. Add ketchup and mustard to taste.

  3. 8

    Complete the Burger

Top with the other half of the bun. Serve immediately while warm.
