Method

Preparation of Onions

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/2 inch thick. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk together until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Sparkling Water

Gradually add the cold sparkling water to the dry ingredients while whisking until you have a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings well.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Make sure each ring is well coated.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
