Cake Preparation

Prepare the Dates
In a bowl, combine the pitted dates and boiling water. Let them soak for about 15 minutes until soft. Once soaked, mash the dates to a paste.

Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large mixing bowl, cream the unsalted butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Combine Mixtures
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and the mashed date mixture.

Incorporate Dry Ingredients
Gradually fold in the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.

Bake the Cake
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a baking dish, then pour the batter into it. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Caramel Sauce Preparation

Make the Caramel
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and unsalted butter. Stir until melted and combined.

Add Cream and Flavor
Slowly whisk in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Allow to simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
Orange Whipped Cream Preparation

Whip the Cream
In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar, orange zest, and orange juice. Continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
Candied Orange Slice Preparation

Candy the Orange Slices
Add the orange slices to the boiling syrup and simmer for about 30 minutes until translucent. Remove from the syrup and let cool on a wire rack.
Assembly

Serve the Pudding
Once the cake has cooled, cut it into squares. Drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the cake, and top with a dollop of orange whipped cream. Garnish with a candied orange slice.
