Ingredients

Fries

Preparation

Preparing the Fries

1. Cutting the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into thin fries, about 1/4 inch thick.

2. Soaking the Fries

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

3. Drying the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with a kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

4. Frying the Fries

In a large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potatoes in batches for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain them on paper towels, and season with salt.

Making the Gravy

5. Melt Butter

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

6. Making a Roux

Add the all-purpose flour to the melted butter and whisk continuously for about 2-3 minutes until it turns a light golden color.

7. Adding Broth

Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking to avoid lumps. Bring to a gentle boil.

8. Seasoning the Gravy

Stir in the soy sauce and black pepper, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes until thickened.

Assembling the Poutine

9. Layering the Fries

Place a generous portion of the crispy fries on a plate or serving dish.

10. Adding Cheese Curds

Sprinkle the cheese curds over the hot fries, allowing them to slightly melt.

11. Drizzling the Gravy

Pour the hot gravy over the fries and cheese curds until everything is nicely covered.

12. Adding Optional Toppings

If desired, add pulled pork, fried chicken, or barbacoa on top of the gravy-covered fries.

13. Serving

Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your delicious Poutine Fries!
