Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and rinse them under cold water. Cut each potato into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch, leading to crispier fries.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat Oil

In a deep fryer or a heavy-bottom pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of potato strips to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika to taste.
