Pulled Pork

Method

Pulled Pork Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Pork

In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.

  2. 2

    Sear the Pork

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the pork shoulder on all sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.

  3. 3

    Slow Cook the Pork

Transfer the seared pork into a slow cooker. Add the chicken broth and apple cider vinegar. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulled apart.

  4. 4

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the cooker and mix with the juices.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Bread

Slice the Cuban bread or hoagie rolls in half lengthwise.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

Spread yellow mustard on the inside of each bread piece. Layer with sliced ham, shredded pulled pork, Swiss cheese, and dill pickles.

  3. 7

    Grill the Sandwich

Heat a panini press or a skillet over medium heat. Place the assembled sandwich in the press or skillet, and grill until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 4-5 minutes.

  4. 8

    Serve

Remove the sandwich from the grill, slice in half, and serve warm.
