Method
Preparing the Patty
- 1
Shape the Patties
In a mixing bowl, take 1 pound of ground beef and season it with 1 tsp of salt and 0.5 tsp of black pepper. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into round patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indent in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.
- 2
Cook the Patties
Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
Preparing the Toppings
- 3
Prepare the Tomato
Wash and slice the medium tomato into 1/4 inch thick slices.
- 4
Prepare the Lettuce
Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.
- 5
Prepare the Pickles
Slice the pickles if they are not already sliced.
Assembling the Burger
- 6
Toast the Buns
Optionally, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.
- 7
Build the Burger
On the bottom half of each bun, add the lettuce leaves, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese. Add the tomato slices and pickles on top. Finish with ketchup and mustard to taste, then place the top half of the bun on.
