Cream Cheese Spread

Method

Bagel Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Yeast

In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in 1 cup of warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with the remaining water. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

  4. 4

    Shape the Bagels

Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then poke a hole through the center to form a bagel shape. Let them rest for 10 minutes.

  5. 5

    Boil the Bagels

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each bagel for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Egg Wash and Bake

Brush each bagel with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Cream Cheese Spread Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Cream Cheese

In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, chopped chives, and garlic powder. Mix until smooth and creamy.

  2. 8

    Season the Spread

Add salt and black pepper to the cream cheese mixture to taste. Mix well to combine.
