Method

Cake Layers

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease five 8-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake Cakes

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Chocolate Filling

  1. 7

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just starts to simmer.

  2. 8

    Melt the Chocolate

Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips and let it sit for 5 minutes.

  3. 9

    Mix Filling

Stir the mixture until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined. Let the filling cool to room temperature.

Chocolate Ganache

  1. 10

    Prepare Ganache

In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

  2. 11

    Combine with Chocolate

Remove from heat and add the dark chocolate chips. Allow to sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth. Let it cool slightly.

Assembly

  1. 12

    Layer the Cakes

Once the cake layers are completely cool, spread a generous amount of chocolate filling between each layer.

  2. 13

    Cover with Ganache

After stacking all layers, pour the chocolate ganache over the top and sides of the cake, smoothing it out with a spatula.

  3. 14

    Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes to allow the ganache to set before slicing and serving.
