Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Wash the Potato

Thoroughly wash the Russet potato under cool running water to remove any dirt. Pat it dry with a paper towel.

  3. 3

    Poke Holes

Using a fork, poke several holes in the potato to allow steam to escape while baking.

  4. 4

    Apply Butter

Rub the potato with 1 tablespoon of butter. This will help to crisp the skin while baking.

  5. 5

    Wrap the Potato

Optionally, wrap the potato in aluminum foil to keep it moist during baking (this step is not necessary, but can be done for a softer skin).

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake the Potato

Place the potato directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and a fork easily pierces the flesh.

Serving

  1. 7

    Remove and Cool

Once baked, carefully remove the potato from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes.

  2. 8

    Cut and Add Toppings

Slice the potato open lengthwise and fluff the insides with a fork. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter, sour cream, and sprinkle fresh chives on top.

  3. 9

    Serve

Serve hot, and enjoy your delicious baked potato!
