Mashed Potato Patty

Brioche and Gruyère

Method

Mashed Potato Patty

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and chop the Russet potatoes into evenly sized chunks. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Boil the Potatoes

Bring the pot to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

  3. 3

    Drain and Mash

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, remaining salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mash until smooth and creamy.

  4. 4

    Add Cheese

Stir in the shredded white cheddar cheese until melted and fully incorporated into the mashed potatoes.

  5. 5

    Form Patties

Allow the mashed potatoes to cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, form the mixture into two equal-sized patties.

  6. 6

    Cook Patties

In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, add a little butter or oil. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Brioche and Gruyère

  1. 7

    Prepare the Brioche Buns

Slice the brioche buns in half horizontally.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Sandwich

Place a cooked cheddar mashed potato patty on the bottom half of each brioche bun. Top with a slice of Gruyère cheese.

  3. 9

    Melt the Gruyère

Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for about 1-2 minutes or until the Gruyère cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.

  4. 10

    Serve

Remove from the broiler and place the top half of the brioche bun on each sandwich. Serve immediately.
