Method

Marinating Chicken

  1. 1

    Prepare Marinade

In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, hot sauce, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Marinate Chicken

Add chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best flavor.

Bacon Jam

  1. 3

    Cook Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon slices until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, leaving some fat in the skillet.

  2. 4

    Cook Onion Mixture

In the same skillet, add chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Add brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and black pepper. Stir and let simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened.

  3. 5

    Combine Bacon and Onion

Crumble the cooked bacon and stir it into the onion mixture. Cook for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

Fried Chicken

  1. 6

    Prepare Coating

In a separate bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cornstarch, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 7

    Heat Oil

Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Remove chicken from marinade and allow excess to drip off.

  3. 8

    Coat Chicken

Dredge each chicken thigh in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring an even coating. Carefully place in hot oil.

  4. 9

    Fry Chicken

Fry chicken for about 7-10 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

Waffles

  1. 10

    Prepare Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, mix together all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  2. 11

    Prepare Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and vegetable oil.

  3. 12

    Mix Waffle Batter

Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed. Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions.

  4. 13

    Cook Waffles

Pour batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook according to manufacturer's instructions until golden brown.

Serving

  1. 14

    Assemble Dish

On a plate, place one waffle, top with a piece of fried chicken, and drizzle with maple syrup.

  2. 15

    Add Eggs and Serve

Add a generous spoonful of bacon jam on the side. Serve with two eggs cooked to your preference.

  3. 16

    Finish and Serve

Dust the entire dish with powdered sugar before serving.
