Method
Biscuit Preparation
- 1
Make the Biscuit Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
- 2
Cut in the Butter
Add the cold, unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3
Add Buttermilk
Pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined. Do not overwork the dough.
- 4
Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Cut out biscuits using a round cutter.
- 5
Bake the Biscuits
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Egg & Cheese or Meat Preparation
- 6
Cook the Sausage (if using)
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side until fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
- 7
- 8
Melt the Cheese
If making the sausage, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each sausage patty and cover until melted. For the egg and cheese option, add cheese directly on scrambled eggs.
Assembly
- 9
Assemble the Sandwich
Slice the baked biscuits in half. For the meat option, place a sausage patty with melted cheese on the bottom half. For the egg & cheese option, place the scrambled eggs with melted cheese on the bottom half.
- 10
Top and Serve
Place the top half of the biscuit on the sandwich and serve immediately with your choice of sides.
Sides Preparation
- 11
Prepare Fresh Fruit
Wash the fresh fruit thoroughly and cut them into bite-sized pieces if necessary.
- 12
Cook Hash Browns
In a skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add hash browns and cook according to package instructions until crispy and golden brown.
