Method

Biscuit Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This ensures that the biscuits will bake evenly and rise properly.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Add the unsalted butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Milk

Pour in the milk and stir gently with a fork until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape the Biscuits

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass.

  6. 6

    Bake the Biscuits

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.

  7. 7

    Cool and Butter

Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Brush the tops with additional melted butter for extra flavor.

Butter and Spread Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare Your Spreads

While the biscuits are baking, prepare your choice of butters and spreads. You can either make herbed butter by mixing softened butter with fresh herbs, or simply place the jams and spreads in small dishes.

  2. 9

    Serve

Once the biscuits are ready, arrange them in a basket and serve warm with your choice of three handcrafted butters and spreads.
