Method

Base

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

3

Whisk Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil until well combined.

4

Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

5

Bake

Pour the batter into a greased 9x9 inch baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

6

Cool Base

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

7

Prepare Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing well.

8

Add Milk and Vanilla

Add milk and vanilla extract to the frosting mixture and beat until smooth and spreadable.

9

Frost the Cake

Once the base is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top.

Garnish

10

Garnish the Dessert

Sprinkle chocolate shavings over the frosted cake and place cherries on top for decoration.
