Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
Prepare strawberry puree (if not pre-made)
Place 3–4 hulled fresh strawberries in a small blender or food processor with 1/2 ounce simple syrup (or a teaspoon of sugar) and 1 teaspoon water. Pulse until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if you want a very smooth puree. Measure out 1 ounce for the cocktail and refrigerate any extra.
Mix the cocktail
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add 2 oz vanilla vodka, 1 oz Kahlúa, 1 oz strawberry puree, and 1/2 oz simple syrup (only if additional sweetness is desired).
Add cream and shake
Pour in 1 oz heavy cream (or half-and-half). Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and the cream is well integrated and slightly frothy.
Strain and serve
Double-strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or rocks glass over fresh ice (or serve neat in a coupe). Use a fine mesh strainer if you used unsmooth puree.
Garnish
Garnish with a fresh strawberry on the rim or a small slice floated on top. Optionally drizzle a few drops of leftover strawberry puree on the surface for a swirl effect.
Notes
Adjust sweetness by varying the simple syrup and puree. For a lighter mouthfeel, swap heavy cream for half-and-half or whole milk. Shake well when using cream to ensure proper emulsification.
