Clean the Mussels
Rinse the mussels under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any debris. Remove the beards (the fibrous material sticking out of the shells) and discard any open mussels that do not close when tapped.

Add spices and tomatoes
Stir in the crushed red pepper flakes, canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, and salt to taste. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the mussels
Add the cleaned mussels to the pot, cover, and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels open up. Stir in fresh basil before serving.

Add wine and lemon
Pour in the dry white wine and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
