Prepare Chips
Spread tortilla chips evenly on a large baking sheet.

Cook Beef
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.

Brown the Meat
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.

Add Ingredients
Stir in chili powder, diced tomatoes (with juice), kidney beans (drained and rinsed), salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assemble Nachos
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the chili is ready, spoon it generously over the tortilla chips. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.

Bake Nachos
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Remove from the oven and top with fresh salsa, sliced jalapenos, chopped green onions, and dollops of sour cream.
