Fried Pickles
Method
Fried Pickles
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
Drain the pickle chips thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels. This will help them fry up crispy.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix it with the buttermilk. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 4
Coat the Pickles
Dip each pickle chip into the batter, ensuring it is well coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.
- 5
Fry the Pickles
Carefully place the coated pickle chips into the hot oil in batches, frying until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Avoid overcrowding the pot.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
- 7
Make Spicy Ranch
In a small bowl, mix together the ranch dressing and hot sauce to create the spicy ranch dipping sauce.
- 8
Enjoy!
Serve the fried pickles hot with the spicy ranch on the side for dipping.
