Naan Bread

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the yogurt, olive oil, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape the Naan

Preheat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a ball. Flatten each ball into an oval or round shape.

  7. 7

    Cook the Naan

Cook each piece of naan on the skillet for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until it puffs up and gets golden brown spots.

  8. 8

    Serve

Remove from the skillet, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with Maldon salt. Serve warm with whipped honey butter and house pickles.
