Potatoes

Butter and Cream

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Yukon Gold potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks, approximately 1-2 inches in size.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium and let simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Mashing

  1. 3

    Drain Potatoes

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a colander and let them sit for a minute to allow excess moisture to evaporate.

  2. 4

    Add Butter and Cream

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add the unsalted butter and heavy cream to the potatoes.

  3. 5

    Mash Potatoes

Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Be careful not to over-mash, as this can make the potatoes gluey.

Seasoning

  1. 6

    Season the Mash

Add black pepper, garlic powder, and chopped chives (if using) to the mashed potatoes. Stir gently to combine and taste for seasoning. Adjust salt and pepper as needed.
