Cocktail Preparation
1. Prepare the Bacon Fat
Cook the bacon slices in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Reserve the bacon fat in a heatproof container.
2. Wash the Bourbon
Combine the bacon fat and Four Roses Bourbon in a jar. Seal and let it sit at room temperature for 4 hours. Afterward, place in the freezer until the fat solidifies. Strain the bourbon through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the solidified fat.
3. Brew the Coffee
In a French press or coffee maker, brew 8 ounces of water with 1 ounce of coarse ground coffee. Let it steep for about 4 minutes, then strain to create a strong coffee.
4. Prepare the Coffee Cube
Pour the brewed coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze until solid, about 4-6 hours.
5. Mix the Cocktail
In a shaker, combine 2 ounces of bacon fat washed bourbon and 0.5 ounces of maple syrup. Fill it with ice and shake well until chilled.
6. Serve
Strain the mixture into a rocks glass over the coffee cube. Garnish with a crispy bacon slice if desired.
