Preparation of Coffee Mixture

Brew Espresso
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and allow it to cool slightly.

Mix with Liqueur
In a shallow dish, combine the cooled espresso with coffee liqueur (if using). Set aside.
Making the Filling

Whip Cream
In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Set aside.

Prepare Egg Mixture
In another bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone
Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.

Combine Mixtures
Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
Assembling Tiramisu

Soak Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them too long to avoid sogginess.

Layering
In a rectangular dish, place a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom, followed by half of the mascarpone filling. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining filling.
Chilling and Serving

Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
