Method

Shrimp Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Shrimp

In a bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with lemon juice, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to coat the shrimp evenly. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.

Breading Mixture

  1. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, and Old Bay seasoning. In another shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Bread the Shrimp

Remove the marinated shrimp from the refrigerator. Dip each shrimp into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour and cornmeal mixture, ensuring it’s well coated.

  3. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully place the breaded shrimp into the hot oil, working in batches if necessary. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve

Arrange the fried shrimp on a serving platter. Garnish with lemon wedges and serve with tartar sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy your homemade shrimp basket!
