Pie Crust

Method

Pie Crust

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 0.5 cups of unsalted butter (cut into small pieces), 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Ice Water

Gradually add 3 tablespoons of ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently until the dough comes together. Avoid overworking the dough.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Dough

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch pie pan and trim any excess. Prick the bottom with a fork to prevent bubbling.

Filling

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Prepare the Filling

In a medium saucepan, melt 0.25 cups of unsalted butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 cup of light corn syrup, 3 large eggs, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt until well combined.

  3. 7

    Add Pecans

Fold in 1 cup of pecans into the filling mixture.

  4. 8

    Assemble the Pie

Pour the pecan filling into the prepared pie crust.

  5. 9

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown. A knife inserted into the filling should come out clean.

  6. 10

    Cool and Serve

Allow the pie to cool at room temperature for at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
