Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 0.5-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add the water to the dry ingredients while whisking until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles and rises to the surface, it’s ready.

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, making sure it's fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Rings

Carefully add the battered onion rings to the hot oil in small batches. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Make sure not to overcrowd the pan.

  4. 7

    Drain the Rings

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the onion rings immediately while they are hot and crispy. Enjoy them with your favorite dipping sauce!
