Boil the Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the mostaccioli pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.
- 2
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.
Preparing the Meat Sauce

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
- 4
Add Ground Beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- 5
Combine Sauce Ingredients
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- 6
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
