Method
Preparation
- 1
Peel and Chop Yams
Peel the yams and chop them into 1-inch cubes. This will help them cook evenly.
- 2
Boil Yams
In a large pot, add the chopped yams and enough water to cover them. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for about 10-15 minutes until yams are tender but not falling apart.
Mixing Ingredients
- 3
Prepare the Sweet Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until combined.
- 4
Combine Yams and Sweet Mixture
Once the yams are cooked, drain them and add them to the bowl with the sweet mixture. Toss gently to coat the yams evenly.
Baking
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Prepare Baking Dish
Grease a baking dish with a little butter to prevent sticking.
- 7
Transfer to Baking Dish
Pour the yam mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- 8
Add Butter
Dot the top of the yams with pieces of unsalted butter.
- 9
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the yams are bubbling and the top is slightly caramelized.
- 10
Optional Marshmallow Topping
If desired, sprinkle marshmallows over the top of the yams during the last 5 minutes of baking for a gooey topping.
