Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt, mixing well.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Assembling and Baking
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a round pizza shape, about 12 inches in diameter.
- 8
Add Sauce and Cheese
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- 9
Add Pepperoni
Arrange the pepperoni slices evenly over the cheese. Sprinkle dried oregano and basil on top for added flavor.
- 10
Bake the Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Cool and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice into wedges and serve hot.
