Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Prepare Yeast
In a small bowl, dissolve 1 tsp of active dry yeast in 3 ml of warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 tsp of salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and 1 tbs of olive oil.
- 3
Knead Dough
Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling Pizza
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes before baking the pizza.
- 6
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
- 7
Add Tomato Sauce
Spread 1 cup of tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 8
Add Cheese and Basil
Tear 8 oz of fresh mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute them over the sauce. Add 1 cup of fresh basil leaves on top.
- 9
Drizzle Olive Oil
Drizzle 1 tbs of olive oil over the top of the assembled pizza and sprinkle salt to taste.
- 10
Bake Pizza
Transfer the pizza to a baking sheet or pizza stone and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot.
