Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Cook Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add canned tomatoes, salt, black pepper, and oregano. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened.

  3. 8

    Blend Sauce (Optional)

For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to blend the sauce to your desired consistency.

Assembling Pizza

  1. 9

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to the highest setting (usually around 250°C or 475°F). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.

  2. 10

    Shape Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round pizza base.

  3. 11

    Add Sauce and Toppings

Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear mozzarella into pieces and place on top of the sauce. Add fresh basil leaves.

  4. 12

    Drizzle with Olive Oil

Drizzle a tablespoon of olive oil over the pizza before baking.

  5. 13

    Bake Pizza

Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or a hot pizza stone) and bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.

  6. 14

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot with extra basil if desired.
