Method

Prepare the Pasta

  1. 1

    Cook the Ziti

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Make the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion, carrot, and celery, and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

  2. 3

    Cook the Meat

Add the ground beef and ground pork to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 7-10 minutes.

  3. 4

    Add Garlic and Tomatoes

Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Then add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Stir well.

  4. 5

    Season the Sauce

Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the sauce. Bring to a simmer and reduce heat to low. Let simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assemble and Bake

  1. 6

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti with the bolognese sauce. Mix well to coat the pasta thoroughly.

  2. 7

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Transfer the pasta mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

  3. 8

    Add Cheese Topping

Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan evenly over the top of the pasta.

  4. 9

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serve

  1. 10

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your Bolognese Baked Ziti!
