Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the TVP

In a large bowl, combine the textured vegetable protein and vegetable broth. Let it sit for 15 minutes until the TVP absorbs the liquid and softens.

  2. 2

    Make the Breading Station

In one bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. In a second bowl, pour the plant-based milk. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Shape the Tenders

Once the TVP is softened, shape it into tender-like strips.

  4. 4

    Coat the Tenders

Dip each strip first into the flour mixture, then into the plant-based milk, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Tenders

Carefully place the coated tenders into the hot oil and fry for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the tenders from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your choice of sauce and ranch on the side.
