Pretzel Dough

Method

Pretzel Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

  2. 2

    Shape the Pretzels

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). After the dough has risen, divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Baking Soda Bath

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil. Add baking soda carefully. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. 4

    Bake the Pretzels

Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
