Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- 3
Cut in Butter
Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
- 5
Add Flavor Variations
Depending on your choice, fold in the additional ingredients for the flavor you desire (blueberries, oats, honey, nuts, lemon zest, ginger, bacon, or cheddar).
- 6
Shape the Scones
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick, then cut into wedges or use a biscuit cutter.
- 7
Bake
Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 8
Cool and Serve
Let the scones cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving warm.
