Sushi Rice

Fillings

Nori and Toppings

Method

Prepare Sushi Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse and Cook Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rinsed rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. 2

    Season Rice

Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl. In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Drizzle this mixture over the hot rice and gently fold to combine. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.

Prepare Fillings

  1. 3

    Slice Fillings

Thinly slice the fresh salmon and tuna. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and slice into thin strips. Julienne the cucumber into thin strips.

  2. 4

    Mix Cream Cheese

In a small bowl, soften the cream cheese using a fork, making it easier to spread later.

Assemble Sushi Rolls

  1. 5

    Lay Out Nori

Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface. Lay a nori sheet shiny side down on the mat.

  2. 6

    Spread Sushi Rice

Wet your hands to prevent sticking. Take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge.

  3. 7

    Add Fillings

In the center of the rice, add a line of salmon, tuna, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber.

  4. 8

    Roll the Sushi

Using the bamboo mat, lift the edge closest to you and roll it away from you, applying gentle pressure to form a tight roll. Seal the edge of the nori with a little water.

  5. 9

    Slice and Serve

Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve with soy sauce and wasabi on the side.
