Method
Preparing the Taco Shells
- 1
Warm the Tortillas
In a skillet over medium heat, warm each corn tortilla for about 30 seconds on each side until they are pliable. Keep them warm by stacking them and covering with a kitchen towel.
Cooking the Filling
- 2
Cook the Meat
In a large skillet, add the ground beef or turkey over medium-high heat. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 6-8 minutes.
- 3
Add Taco Seasoning
Once the meat is cooked through, drain any excess fat. Add the taco seasoning and follow the package instructions, typically adding water and simmering for 5 minutes.
- 4
Heat Refried Beans
In a separate small saucepan, heat the refried beans over low heat until warmed through, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Assembling the Tacos
- 5
Fill the Tortillas
Take a warm tortilla and spread a spoonful of refried beans in the center. Add a portion of the seasoned meat on top.
- 6
Add Toppings
Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, chopped onions, shredded cheese, and a dollop of sour cream. Add salsa and sprinkle with fresh cilantro if desired.
- 7
Serve
Serve the tacos with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
