Horchata Ingredients

Method

Horchata Directions

  1. 1

    Soak the Rice

In a bowl, combine the long-grain white rice and 2 cups of water. Allow it to soak for at least 3 hours or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Blend the Mixture

After soaking, drain the rice and place it in a blender. Add the cinnamon stick and the remaining 2 cups of water. Blend on high until the mixture is smooth.

  3. 3

    Strain the Mixture

Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large pitcher, discarding the solid rice and cinnamon stick. This will create a smooth liquid base for your horchata.

  4. 4

    Add Flavorings

To the strained liquid, add the sugar, vanilla extract, milk, and a pinch of salt. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  5. 5

    Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the horchata for at least 1 hour to chill. Serve over ice if desired, and sprinkle with ground cinnamon on top before serving.
